Participants will come to share in a uniquely Christian understanding of the mystery and marvel of human communication. After exploring the profound relationship that exists between growing as communicators and growing up into Christ our Head, we will take up a series of foundational topics that will include practical measures to help retreat attendees to be better, more thoughtful communicators, while also laying the groundwork for future communication-themed retreats. Featured among this year’s topics are: the art of biblical encouragement, the skills of active listening, and the differences in the way men and women communicate.
Dr. Paustian returns to the Men’s Retreat after leading instruction at our first two retreats in 2008 and 2009, and more recently a sabbatical to complete his PhD from Regent University. In addition to his PhD work, his education includes two Masters degrees (of Divinity, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, and Speech Communication, University of Minnesota – Mankato). Professor Paustian returns to his teaching post at Martin Luther College this fall, where he teaches Interpersonal Communication, Advanced Christian Rhetoric and Intermediate Biblical Hebrew; and coaches Men's and Women's Cross Country. Before coming to MLC in 2001, Mark spent 12 years as church planter and home mission pastor at New Life Ev. Lutheran in Rockford, IL. Mark is also author of Prepared to Answer and MORE Prepared to Answer. Among their many blessings, Mark and wife Constance celebrate their 25 years of marriage this year and cherish daughters Abby and Hannah.
